The golden tornadoes: Hoss stomp … probably the simplest song, which I have ever composed. It’s based on just five chords and just one verse/chorus-section with solo. I remember, that this tune somehow initialised our little surf-band. I met with my band-mate at home and we played this song with two acoustic guitars and decided to look for a drummer and bass-player. It became a favourite of all band-members.
I can not exactly remember, what inspired my bandmate to name it “Hoss stomp”. “Hoss” is another figure in the serial “Bonanza”, but is also used to describe a wrestling-fighter. Because another Bonanza-picture would be boring and I don’t like wrestling I have uploaded a picture of an old Ford Mustang to support the feeling of speed and the vintage-vibe. We never had a trumpet-player in the band, but I always had dreamed of a trumpet playing the chorus-theme. Now I could add the desired trumpet at last. While with the band I improvised the solo I have now notated it before the recording. I was never happy with my improvisation-skills, so I think I can achieve better results in this way.
Recording notes: All guitars were recorded with an Epiphone Casino with Bigsby (a new chinese made). I realised the trumpet with Vienna Symphonic Special edition. The bass was recorded using a Bassculture Picco Shortscale.
Now grab the wheel and drive …
