Back in 2002 I played guitar in a Live-band called “The golden tornadoes”. We were all fans of old surf-rock a la Dick Dale and the Deltones, or The shadows. I wrote several songs for this band until I left to start the “heartscore”-project.
Because I am still affected by a throat-infection I can not sing actually, so it’s the right time to publish instrumentals. Though the material is much straighter than the progressive rock of “heartscore” I managed it to integrate some little sophisticated details like the “reaggae-part” within this song. I have recreated the whole band now alone. My band-mate on the rhythm-guitar played trough a Marshall, which is quite unusual for Surf, but in my opinion we sounded unique then because of the combination of the rocking rhythm-guitar and the clean melodic lead. We had a lot of fun and many little gigs at parties or small clubs. I tried here to recreate the distinctive styles of the players. Probably I will publish more of these songs later.
Recording notes: I realised the drums with BFD2.
The bass was played using a Plectrum on a Bassculture Picco 5string shortscale
I used an Epiphone Casino with Bigsby for both, lead and rhythm-guitar
The rhythm-track was recorded through the Marshall-simulation of an old Boss BR-600
The lead guitar was recorded D.I. and then send through the Logic Fender-simulation, Tape-delay and EMT reverb.
Original line-up of The golden tornadoes:
Dirk Radloff: Guitar
Thomas Striffler: Guitar
Christian Amend: Bass
Jens Pätsch: Drums
Nicole Schmischow: Vocals
